If you are unfamiliar with the FIAT brand, no problem. Here is a bit of history to get you up to speed. The Italian car company, FIAT, is no novice to the American auto market. In fact, they have been present in America for more than a century. The FIAT 500, or Cinquecento, was created in the 1950's in Italy and is considered a classic. In 2007, fifty years after the Cinquecento's inception, FIAT released a newly designed 500. In 2011, the re-designed 500 hit the American market and it exemplifies European charisma in a subcompact car. The 500 comes in a convertible option, the Cabrio or 500c, and it is one of the most affordable cabrio vehicles in its class. It offers a generous number of standard features and excellent fuel economy. Your dream of owning a convertible vehicle can become a reality! Keep reading to hear all that the 2017 FIAT 500c has to offer.

Under the 500c's Hood

The FIAT 500c is powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Power is sent to the front wheels, and the engine produces 101 horsepower and 98 lb-ft of torque. An optional six-speed automatic transmission is also available. Fuel economy for models with the standard four-cylinder engine is estimated at 31 miles per gallon in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. For the sportier option, the Abarth trim offers a turbo-charged engine, which puts out 160 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. An optional six-speed heavy-duty automatic transmission is also available. Per Edmund's testing, the 500c Abarth went from 0 to 60 in an impressive 7.5 seconds, and it still earns excellent fuel economy with 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The Abarth is also sport-tuned and has superior handling. Designed with the Italian racetrack in mind, the Abarth offers a turbo boost gauge, performance suspension, dual exhaust, performance brakes, wider tires and a lowered body height.

Design of FIAT  500c

The 2017 FIAT 500c comes in three different trim levels, Pop, Lounge and Abarth. One of the more notable features on the FIAT 500c is its power-retractable soft top. With a press of a button, the soft top opens into three different settings: partially open for a sunroof effect, mostly open for a panoramic sunroof effect, or completely open for the full convertible effect. FIAT had convenience in mind with the soft top design. It can be opened or closed while driving in speeds up to 50 mph. Standard features in the lowest trim are generous. For example, the Pop trim includes full power accessories, a 7-inch color driver information display, keyless entry, heated mirrors, cruise control, 15-inch alloy wheels, a windscreen that fits between the rear seats, the Uconnect infotainment system with a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker audio system with USB and auxiliary inputs. The next trim up is the Lounge, which tacks on heated fronts seats, foglights, exterior chrome trim, automatic climate control, satellite radio, and leather seating. Finally, the race-track-inspired Abarth trim offers sportier features such as a rear spoiler, 16-inch wheels, performance high-back front bucket seats, specialized interior and exterior detailing, a leather-coated shift knob, and a sport steering wheel. There is also an available six-speaker Beats Audio sound system with a trunk-mounted subwoofer if you want to turn more heads in your convertible.
