2017 RAM 1500 vs 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 near Wallingford, CT

If you are shopping for a full-size pickup truck, you undoubtedly have considered the RAM 1500 and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The 2017 RAM 1500 is a dependable and powerful truck, known for its smooth ride and outstanding capabilities. It has one of the more refined interiors on the market, and it has switched to an eight-speed automatic transmission for 2017. It also has an available diesel engine for better fuel economy. For 2017, the Chevrolet Silverado keeps its three gas engine options but adds active grille shutters to improve fuel economy, and the Teen Driver feature is now added. If you are doing research on these two trucks in order to make a purchase decision, then continue reading to learn more about each vehicle!

2017 RAM 1500 Power & Handling

RAM offers three powerful engine options for their 1500 lineup. Each of the options offer excellent capability, depending on your specific needs. The base engine is the notable 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, which generates 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. The other two engine options are the turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6 and the 5.7-liter Hemi V8. Two-wheel or four-wheel drive are offered, and an eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard with most configurations. The RAM 1500 has exceptional ride quality due to its coil-spring suspension and available adjustable air suspension.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Power & Handling

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers a V6 engine and two V8 engine options. The first V6, the 4.3-liter, is capable of 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. Then, there is a 5.3-liter V8 and a 6.2-liter V8. The V6 engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and the V8 engines are either paired with a six-speed automatic or an eight-speed, depending on the trim. Two-wheel or four-wheel drive is available on all trim levels. The Silverado 1500 does not offer a diesel engine.

2017 RAM 1500 Features & Design

One strength of RAM is the numerous options available for customizing your truck. From cab size, bed size, engine size, trim level and package upgrades, the RAM offers it all. There are 10 trims available, and standard equipment includes automatic headlights, a  spray-in bedliner, durable vinyl seating, cruise control, A/C, and more. Optional features can include the Uconnect infotainment system with the 8.4-inch touchscreen and the RAMbox weatherproof bins. Luxury features in higher trims include heated and ventilated front seats, a self-leveling air suspension, driver memory settings, and so much more.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Features & Design

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado offers only eight trim levels and its cab and bed configurations are similar to the RAM 1500's. Some of the standard features on the base Silverado 1500 are a bed light, A/C, cruise control, vinyl seating, automatic headlights, a 4.2-inch color audio display, and more. An upgraded infotainment system is available with a 7-inch touchscreen, and higher trims include features such as a rear under-seat storage bin, a rearview camera, tow mirrors, leather upholstery, a wireless phone charging pad, and more.

Conclusions

The 2017 RAM 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are both great truck options, but when it comes to all-around ride quality, and number of customization options, the RAM 1500 takes the prize. This truck not only offers a diesel engine option for increased fuel economy, but it also offers two award-winning Pentastar engine options. Its suspension surpasses the Silverado's, making the ride much more comfortable for both the driver and its passengers. Although the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado is a good option with its powerful lineup of gas engines and varying cab and bed size choices, the RAM is a better choice if you want the best cabin and ride experience in addition to excellent towing and hauling capabilities.
