2017 FIAT 500 at Roberts Chrysler Dodge for Meriden, CT

A small car doesn't have to be scarcely equipped or boring. If you don't believe me, feast your eyes on the 2017 FIAT 500. With wild, European styling, the FIAT 500 looks nothing like your average coupe. The looks aren't the only thing that sets the 500 apart though, the FIAT 500 set out with a mission to make one of the most fuel-efficient cars around and still does well with it. The low price tag helps the 500 stand out too. For this year, the lineup has been simplified to three trim levels and lots of features are now offered as stand-alone options instead of packages for more personalization. In addition to that, the convertible is available on every trim now for a small charge, rear park assist is standard on the Abarth, and a driver information display and a six-speaker Alpine audio system are now standard on every trim.

Under the 500's Hood

Under the hoods of the Pop and Lounge trims are 1.4-liter four-cylinder engines. They power both trims with 101 horsepower and 98 pound-feet of torque. This engine is also paired with a standard six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, although a five-speed manual is also available. EPA estimates say that the manual FIAT 500 Pop and Lounge get 34 mpg combined, or 29 mpg combined with the automatic. The Abarth, the more performance oriented option, has a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that's good for 160 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a five-speed manual transmission standard, but you can opt for a six-speed automatic. When the powertrain is completed with the automatic, you can expect the output to change to 157 horsepower and 183 pound-feet of torque. For the Abarth, fuel economy is 30 mpg with the manual or 27 mpg combined with the automatic.

Design of FIAT 500

The FIAT 500 is a two-door, four-passenger vehicle offered as either a coupe or a convertible. There are three available trims: Pop, Lounge, and Abarth. Heated mirrors, a height-adjustable driver seat, full power accessories, a 5.0-inch touchscreen Uconnect infotainment system, a 7-inch driver information display, cruise control, keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity, an Alpine audio system with six speakers, voice controls, a leather-wrapped tilting steering wheel, air-conditioning, 50/50-split folding rear seatbacks, and 15-inch alloy wheels are all standard features of the most basic Pop trim. The Lounge adds more luxury features, and the Abarth adds more performance and sport features.
