Under the 1500's Hood

The base engine is a 3.6-liter gasoline V6 that generates 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The only transmission is an eight-speed automatic with a rotary knob on the instrument panel. The 2WD is standard on the engine, but you have the option for a 4WD system. One 4WD system is the traditional system with manual mode selection and the other system has an auto 4WD mode that will switch between rear- and four- wheel drive. The V6 engine can get up to 20 mpg combined with 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. When the V6 has 4WD the mpg goes to 19 mpg with 16 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway. Another engine option is a 5.7-liter V8 rated at 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The V8's fuel economy is combined at 17 mpg. When this engine is 2WD the mpg is 17 mpg combined. The last engine option is a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6 rated at 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The fuel economy is at 23 mpg combined for the 2WD and for the 4WD it is 22 mpg combined. The first V6 can tow up 7,610 pounds, the turbocharged V6 can tow up to 9,210 pounds, and the V8 engine can tow up to 10,640 pounds.

Design of RAM 1500

You have some options when you choose your new RAM 1500. There is a regular cab with two doors, a quad cab with four doors, and a crew cab with four doors. The regular cab has two sizes a 6-foot-4-inch or an 8-foot cargo bed. The quad cab only comes with a 6-foot-4 bed. The crew cab has the options of a 5-foot-7 or 6-foot-4 bed. Even with all these options, there are 10 trim levels: Tradesman, Express, HFE, SLT, Big Horn/Lone Star, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited. Some of the features on the higher trim levels can be added to the lower trim levels. Mostly the feature add-ons are appearance enhancement like chrome bed rails, a sunroof, heated rear seat, and a rear defroster.
