First Look: The Enhanced 2019 FIAT 500X

Mixing functionality with the flavor of Italian styling, the FIAT 500X's compact crossover SUV build brings vibrant individuality and a spunky personality to the segment's market at an affordable price point.  Revealed at the November 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, FIAT has brought a new power and styling to its sporty 2019 500X, bringing a more dynamic and fun driving experience with best-in-class torque output! Benefitting from the latest FCA-exclusive third-generation MultiAir3 valve-actuation technology, the all-new 1.3-liter direct-injection four-cylinder turbocharged powertrain is more powerful and efficient than ever!  Performance includes 177 horsepower and, as stated, a best-in-class torque performance of 210 lb-ft--more powerful than both of the 500X's previous powertrains as well as most other rival crossovers! The engine's power is channeled through a more responsive automatic nine-speed transmission for smoother shifting and a more boisterous acceleration.  When the driver demands more power, the MultiAir3 immediately goes into action by reducing compression ratios and delaying valve closure, contributing to better fuel economy while reducing knock, as the transmission chooses from more than twenty shift-maps to suit whatever your power needs, optimizing shift quality through all speeds and gears. FIAT's Dynamic Selector System offers you three custom modes for optimal driving performance: Auto, Sport, and Traction +.  There's also the available on-the-fly shift-map changing Auto Stick manual-mode capability. Improving handling, every 2019 FIAT 500X is equipped with Koni frequency selective damping front strut and rear shock absorbers to really grip the road while providing a smoother ride by filtering out high-frequency suspension inputs on uneven road surfaces. Now standard all-wheel drive comes with an automatic disconnecting rear axle to be able to run with 2WD when the extra power isn't necessary, improving on overall efficiency.  Estimated fuel economy is up two miles per gallon from previous city and combined efficiency ratings!

Looking good and feeling good, the 2019 500X brings some tweaks to both its exterior and interior style to enhance its cool and bring you more functionality within.  The front and rear fascias have been remodeled and now include LED daytime running lights with available LED headlights that provide twenty percent greater forward lighting at five times less energy consumption compared to halogen lights.  The signature rear tail lamps have also been upgraded to LEDs for greater safety. Inside, the 500X's cockpit has been refreshed with new premium cloth seating, additional space and storage, and comfortable seating for up to five passengers.  The new instrument cluster maintains its stylish three circular elements for a perfect blend of vintage looks to modern digital graphics. The steering wheel has been better contoured for perfect grip onto its premium leather wrapping and easy access to its mounted radio and Bluetooth controls.  These control the nested fourth-generation seven-inch Uconnect media touchscreen interface with standard hands-free Bluetooth calling, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto wireless smartphone, voice commands and audio streaming, and available SiriusXM Radio and GPS navigation. The new screen brings with it faster start-up times, enhanced processing power, higher resolution imagery, and sharper graphics.  The new model year also enhances security and safety with nearly seventy available and standard systems equipped within the 2019 500X. This year features standard Blind-Spot and Rear Cross Path Monitoring, ParkView rear backup camera with Dynamic Turn guidelines, and newly available Adaptive Cruise Control and Front Park Assist.
