About Southington Connecticut

Southington is a town located in the middle of the state in Hartford County, Connecticut. The area is home to a rare geological phenomenon known as "The Great UnConformity".  The Roaring Brook gorge was carved by the eponymous Roaring Brook, and now shows layers of rock and stone that seem to have a "skip" in the geological record, fascinating modern geologists. A local landmark called Castle Craig, was built in 1900 and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. From the top of the Castle tower it is possible to see both the Berkshire Hills of Southern Massachusetts and Long Island Sound to the south.
