Winter is a hard time of year. Not only on humans but also on your car. A friend of mine broke down right after Christmas and had to wait FOUR hours for a tow. Thankfully he was smart and had his car prepared but it got me to thinking? What if I broke down? Would I have all of the necessary items to keep me safe and warm while waiting for help?

Below is a must winter car kit. Do you and your family a favor, keep all of the items you need so if there is an emergency you are prepared. We do it for bad weather, etc, why not our cars?

What To Pack:

  • Battery Powered Radio and extra batteries. Keep an eye on the batteries because sometimes cold weather can drain them.
  • Flashlight with extra batteries. Do not put the batteries in right way. Wait until you need them.
  • Blankets. The thicker the better.
  • Booster Cables
  • Bottled Water
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Non-Parishable Food - Granola bars, dried fruit, and peanut butter are a good choice
  • A Map- This is essential just in case your battery dies and you can't use GPS
  • Change of clothes including gloves, scarves, and hats. It may also be a good idea to have an extra pair of boots.
  • Cat Litter for traction if you are stuck.
  • Rope - This can have a lot of uses but one of the best is you can tie yourself to the car if you need to get out in the middle of a snow storm.
  • First Aid Kit
  • Plastic Garbage bags to tie around your feet for added warmth.
  • Flares and Reflectors
