2019 RAM 1500 Power & Handling

Both these vehicles start out with lighter duty V6 power, but there's nothing to be underestimated about the standard Pentastar so famous in a variety of FCA vehicles.  This 3.6L V6 is well endowed to handle a variety of tasks thanks to its 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque.  Already, this base engine can tow a maximum of 7,730 pounds and easily manages a full payload of 2,100 pounds when properly equipped.  The all new eTorque technology that's equipped within the Pentastar provides mild-hybrid efficiency with a great boost of power, supplying 90 extra lb-ft of torque on demand.  Choosing RAM gives the clear advantage of having the 5.7L V8 optional even in the lowest trim model.  On its own, this engine generates 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, capable of towing up to 11,600 pounds.  This HEMI can also come with the added strength of the eTorque system, improving the 1500's performance up to a tow rating of 12,750 pounds when engaging the 130 extra lb-ft the mild-hybrid technology can provide you with.  All of these powertrains come paired with an efficient and smooth eight-speed automatic TorqueFlite transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters.  All trims come configured for either 4x2 or 4x4 performance.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Power & Handling

Within the Silverado, the base V6 offered is a 4.3L that generates a comparable 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque.  This shift of performance numbers allows for a slightly higher tow rating of 8,000 pounds, but this  comes at the cost of a thirstier engine and lesser fuel efficiency than the RAM.  Other than this engine, there are five other powertrain options available throughout the Silverado's trims, but you'll find their gradually enhanced performance stats locked behind trim-exclusive availability that ups the price in exchange for greater power.  The V8 available within the base trim is the 5.3L V8, lagging behind the RAM's HEMI option with a tow rating of just 11,000 pounds.  To compete with the RAM's capabilities, you'd need to move up four trims to the 5.3L Dynamic Fuel Management V8.  But none of the Chevy's powertrains approaches the tow ratings and power behind the new eTorque equipment of the RAM.  The highest powertrain available only in the highest two Silverado trims is the 6.2L V8 offering 420 horsepower and a tow capacity of 12,200 pounds.

2019 RAM 1500 Features & Design

The RAM's new design features a unique look for every trim, offering exclusive grille and headlight designs to showcase your model selection.  The interior styling is also tailored to reflect the trims' one of a kind personalities.  The Big Horn/Lone Star is provided in backcountry inspired tans and browns, while the Rebel offers edgy black elements with bright red detailing.  Topping the line, the Longhorn comes straight off the ranch with rich leather upholstery, real barnwood dash, wheel, and center console, and branded badging.  Overall, the RAM has been smartly remodeled to include four additional inches within the Crew Cab for a full size rear seat, offering passengers superior 45-inch legroom and a comfortable flat floor for middle seat occupants.  Storage inside and out has been highly considered to enhance the vehicle's flexibility for families and business.  The center console is large enough for a hanging rack of files or a fifteen inch laptop, and compartments underneath the rear seat as well as built hidden into the floor provide ample tool or accessory storage.  The 1500 is offered in two other cab styles: the Regular and Quad Cab.  Across these three cabin builds are three bed sizes: a short 5'7", standard 6'4", and long 8' design.  Every 1500 offers standard air conditioning, cruise control, business savvy Bluetooth with voice recognition, and a Uconnect radio touch display that ranges between seven inches or a biggest-in-class twelve inches.  This provides standard MP3 connections, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, with available SiriusXM, HD Radio, navigation, and even Wi-Fi.

As with the powertrains, the Silverado's trims supplies limitations with regards to features as well.  While you can fairly freely shape a RAM to suit your needs with a multitude of available packages, the Silverado's trims are treated like comprehensive levels that each suit a particular purpose.  This is evident of the truck's three classifications, sorting the trims into brackets based upon High Value, High Volume, or High Feature needs.  Variety is still provided despite this trim-packaging.  The Chevy also offers three cabin options, the Regular, Double, or Crew Cabs.  Of these, there are also three bed builds: short 5'8", standard 6'6", or long 8' models.  Standard features of the base model are also comparable.  There's included cruise control, air conditioning, and Bluetooth with voice recognition.  The touchscreen comes in a seven-inch build, but can only upgrade to an eight-inch display.  This controls the truck's MP3 connections, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.  Navigation, HD Radio, and SiriusXM are available within higher trims.  Some may miss the convenience of keyless remote entry that the base model lacks in the Silverado.

Conclusions
